Points leader Oscar Piastri has revealed he learned "important insights on risk assessment" after his challenging round at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The McLaren competitor crashed out early after an early start that dropped him to the back of the field. This mishap came after further troubles during both qualifying and practice runs.
McLaren colleague Norris closed the distance in the title fight to just 25 points, while the Dutch champion Verstappen now trails 69 points behind entering this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix after winning both in the last two rounds.
"We must avoid weekends like Baku and we recognize such results are unacceptable," the driver commented.
"From my perspective, I encountered challenging takeaways but as a team we identified multiple areas to enhance our performance. This awareness proves vitally important."
"The Baku experience served as a strong reminder about how rapidly circumstances can shift and highlighted the key factors that have driven our success throughout this season. Staying concentrated on these fundamentals will naturally address the title picture."

Piastri conceded he had "pushed too hard" during Baku qualifying and recognized the race incident was "complicated to quickly analyze given the start-line situation".
"These experiences provided valuable insights about improving my response and fundamentally taught me about assessing risks," he continued. "No radical changes are necessary or will be introduced."
"During most of the race weekends, my approach has worked well. By concentrating on what has succeeded, good outcomes will continue. Nothing extreme - I'm just chalking it up to some errors."
Championship Battle Heats Up
Lando Norris declared that Max Verstappen "genuinely represents a title contender" with seven events left, echoing sentiments previously expressed by McLaren team principal the team leader.
The Dutch champion's recent victory marked his fourth of the 2024 campaign, while Piastri has secured seven wins and his teammate has collected five triumphs.
Norris emphasized that Verstappen had consistently posed a greater challenge to the team than generally perceived.
"Looking back to the season's beginning, they were challenging us during the initial six races, fighting over the drivers' championship," he detailed. "Following our upgrade package, we enhanced performance."
"Recently, their upgrades have apparently leveled the playing field. We continue approaching each race with victory intentions and dominance aspirations."
"The competition including the established giants have closed the gap recently, so we expect intense battles, particularly against these competitors."
Team Title Approaching Conclusion
McLaren are almost certain to secure the team title this Singapore round - they will officially secure the championship provided their German rivals do not outscore them by 31 points, or the Italian squad by 35 points.
Driver's Personal Challenge

Scuderia competitor Lewis Hamilton returns to competition for the initial occasion since the loss of his beloved bulldog Roscoe.
The legendary driver expressed being "deeply moved by worldwide reaction" and mentioned receiving "countless communications" that he described as "extremely touching".
"I've been unable to answer all messages," Hamilton admitted. "This loss impacted me significantly. Many people worldwide have experienced similar pain with cherished pets that offer amazing affection. It's an incredible bond."
