Lately, gamers of the popular life simulation game have faced major problems with corrupted save files after a game update. To address this, the developer unveiled a fix-it roadmap in September, outlining the approach to fix the most pressing bugs.
Pinpointing the Underlying Issues
After extensive testing, the team discovered two primary causes for the save file corruption. First, scratch files—critical for game operations—are somehow disappearing, resulting in complete save corruption. Secondly, a separate issue with lot-specific data is trapping players in infinite loading loops, possibly caused by specific construction habits like super-stuffed lots, regardless of modifications.
Short-Term Solutions and Precautions
To combat the issue of excessively built-up properties, the next update will temporarily disable the Residential Rental Unit cheat. This cheat allows players to add unlimited Rental Units on home plots.
"We’re removing the Residential Rental Unit cheat with the next patch, as a preventative step as more comprehensive solutions are worked on," the studio explained. "Although we value user freedom seriously, to err on the side of safety, this step is needed to mitigate its potential risk."
Nevertheless, many users are facing the endless loading and save corruption even without the command, prompting continued analysis into save bloat and related issues.
Advanced Tools and Ongoing Efforts
In a recent update, the developer shared that they have created a custom Python script that helps in pulling, analyzing, and condensing save file data provided by the player base.
Via official channels, the company restated its commitment to finding solutions and keeping players informed.
"We’ve committed to transparency, and although we lack a complete solution at this time, progress is being made every day," reads a recent post. "We appreciate for your patience, your suggestions, and your enthusiasm for The Sims."
The hunt for a permanent fix goes on, with the team promising to provide regular updates as further details becomes available.
